Product Review:Skin MD Natural Face Hand and Body Shielding Lotion(photos included)

Saturday, February 13, 2010
(photos on this post were unaccessible to i had to change them.but the review content is still the same)

Remember my Skin MD Lotion that i got, most of you prolly know that when i do reviews i must test them first in a span of a month or so,and I've been using this as a face moisturizer for quite some time now and frankly i was afraid to use it on my face cause it might be too strong since this is also a body and hand moisturizer..but i was wrong...you see im a moisturizer lover..especially facial moisturizers, since i noticed that when i moisturize it does something that lessens the oil production on my face, that is why i adore moisturizers, but im quite finicky when it comes to one,i don't like those with greasy feeling, and heavy scent...and SkinMD is not one of them.

Cost: 18$ for 120 ml/4oz on SkinMD's Site:(link to their site)

Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion, a very special type of lotion helping the skin restore its integrity, enhance its protective functions so that the skin is able to heal naturally and regain its youthful appearance. Skin MD Natural works by bonding with cells of the skin's outermost layer to form what works as an invisible shield. This layer of protection prevents environmental irritants and pollutants from penetrating the skin, while sealing in the skin's own natural oils and moisture, helping resolve the dry skin condition.
Skin MD Natural uses only the finest natural ingredients, and is focused on urging the skin to be active, and to use its own moisture to effectively heal itself. It is not oily or sticky, doesn't sit on top of your skin leaving a greasy residue on everything you touch, it doesn't rub or wash off easily, is hypoallergenic, fragrance, colorant and paraben free and dermatology tested.
It's for Moms, Dads and Kids of all ages.
It's an easy, safe and natural way to care for your skin throughout the day.
Every day.

direction and description..

ingredients..it contains dimethicone, hence the smooth smashbox photofinish like primer finish that i felt after the application, its dermatology tested, fragrance and colorant free which i like and hypoallergenic..but it doesn't indicate that its non comodogenic, but i have seen that a doctor's review on their site stated that it is indeed non comodogenic,or it doesn't clogs pores

here is the product,i like to dot it on my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose, then my neck area, this amount will cover most of them.
see that translucent lotion on my skin..maybe just maybe its the dimethicone that is locking the moisture inside, since its a form of silicone right, same principle as our primers with dimethicone it serves as a barrier between our face oil and makeup so that it wont fade or melt, this one it locks and shields the moisture in ,so that it remains inside, while the irritants remains outside...well that's just how i understood why it contains dimethicone..correct me if im wrong pls.

after i blend it all out...i let it sink in for up to 5 mins before i apply my makeup i usually do that on every moisturizer that i use,but on this one its like an express when it comes to absorption, you dont have to wait 5 mins long..that's just how i do it.
after 5 mins.. all dried up my skin feels so smooth after,so smooth that after my husband touched my face he also applied it to himself haha.

then i skipped my SANA Nameraka Honpo Essence and applied the Skin MD natural instead before i sleep for about a week, here's the latest photo of me after i woke up with Skin MD as my night moisturizer.

so Fluffy, smooth,my skin is indeed moisturized.mind you i was flaking the other night.

close up...don't mind my lip hairs hehe..i like the Skin MD natural,i think ill use this as my special moisturizer, specially on those times that I'm flaking,or my skin is acting up with pop outs.since this is not locally available here in my country ill save this one to last hehe.

PROS:

  • Its a Face Hand and Body lotion,3 in 1 purpose
  • No Sticky, greasy Feeling at all
  • face feels soft and smooth right after application
  • A little Goes A long way.
  • Absorbs quickly by my Skin
  • Skin feels moisturized and it doesn't feel heavy on the face, very light weight.
  • Did Not Broke me out.(yey!)
  • Lessens the oiliness of my face
  • Good for everyday use.

CONS:

  • Not Locally Available in my country.
  • If your super allergic to dimethicone or any of the ingredients, obviously this is not for you.
Repurchase?i will if i can find one here on my country hahaha.why am i laughing boohoo

so thats it for me thanks for visiting guys, and FYI i made this post out of my experience on the product true to my word, honestly explained.
Oh and i also used this on my feet cause i have a nasty looking callouses and it did great as well, ill soon post my nasty feet as soon as it gets some pampering hehe xiao

FOTD:Bridal look/Barely there Look~

Wednesday, February 10, 2010
i once told my girlfriends that you don't have to put tons of makeup and apply colorful eyeshadow for you to look good, that its better to just enhance what you have rather than trying to create a strong feature in your face and ruin your face proportions. And yeah that's my look for this day....Bridal/Barely there look.

products used:

  • Home made green base(to brighten up complexion and toned down redness)
  • VOV pink beige foundation(as a concealer)
  • Meow Cosmetics FF abyssinian
  • Some Kinda Gorgeous Deep(contouring)
  • Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter
  • Clinique Blush(cant read the shade)

a simple look that i think can pass as a bridal look too,i fixed my hair up and it look glam and classy but sweet..

my nose looks really sharp...me like it...haha...my lashes looked full too..if you want you may use falsies too give your eyes a little push, but i cant find my lash glue soo i went for the au naturale lashes with 2 coats of mascara =D
eyes:
i only used 2 shades of eyeshadow,i mixed the light eyeshadow with a darker brown shade and applied it on the lid, then the brown on my crease and the light shade as a highlighter

applied a black liner with a light hand i made it thicker on the outer part and smudged it.

the highlighter on my tear ducts was from elf all over cover stick in pink lemonade..

lips..Lip liner from styli style and a My lips but better shade(MLBB) in2it zip topped with a gloss on the middle..
i had a hard time contouring my face cause i was flaking..my skin condition right now is like one of my worst.....tiny blackheads suddenly popped Hi!..out of nowhere..i mean if you'll click the photo i think you'll be able to see some tiny bumps on my cheeks..hmmm...i wonder.

here's another shot maybe you ll be able to see it this close...my skin wasn't as conditioned as it was before..but it looked flawless on my shots.that's how great vov foundation is??..i don't know.. its the first time i used it.

i also contoured my nose,i wasn't gifted you see..haha,enhance what you've got so i said....i don't know if you already noticed..my eyebrows were asymmetrical...i cant line them properly cause they're naturally different in shape..one is curved while the other one has a slanted peak...

highlighted my nose' bridge and upper lip as well as the top of my brows..

here's a black and white photo...now all i need is a groom..ehem..hahaha.ADVANCE HAPPY VALENTINES DAY LADIES AND GENTS XOXO.

PS: i will be doing my first ever makeup gig...its a fashion show that will be held at the fort...im sooo excited, and quite nervous at the same time...

How To:Lets Talk Brushes...(natural and synthetic)

Monday, February 08, 2010
im quite finicky when it comes to brushes,i want them to be soft, not too big and they must delivery great results...at first i wasnt aware of brushes that have duo fibers, flat tops, slanted and domed ones, all i knew was the tapered brushes which i used as a blush brush..but now here's what i have..

lets start with the bristles-there are 2 kind of bristles....A natural one and a synthetic(man made) bristles...

natural bristles are made from animal hairs like squirrel, pony, goat, badger and so on..at first i thought that they were harming the animal to produce natural bristle but i was wrong, they feed the animals with pellets or grains...something that will produce nice shiny hairs then they just shaved off their furs..(fur?! haha) i mean hairs..but there are still a lot of issues about shaving animal hairs that is why they created a vegan kind of brushes(the synthetic ones)
natural hair has a center structure known as the medulla. Medulla is covered by a thick sheath called cortex and is layered by cuticle which is like a shell of scales. The scales and hollows in the cuticle structure are responsible forholding and trapping whatever powders or cosmetics they picked up. So, when you press the brush, the 'trappings' will release the powder, blush or whatever makeup they have picked up. That is why natural hair is the best and most preferred makeup brush hair type as it is able to deliver and 'apply' makeup more effectively. However, the quality of natural hair makeup brushes varies in quality depending on factors such as hair type, type of cuts or harvesting methods used, but still the quality depends on the manufacturers..

types of natural bristles

badger hair
High quality badger hair is similar to squirrel, kolinsky sable, weasel or red sable, in that Water Badger Hair 'tapers', hence it also has a 'conical' shape. This means that high quality badger hair makeup brushes would also have thick bellies and thin pointy tips. Badger 'Tapers' is 'elastic'. The less 'tapered' the hair is the less 'elastic' it will be. Badger 'Tapers' are found in high-quality badger hair makeup brushes. The high-quality badger hair has the typical 'sketchy' appearance (light-dark-light) with softer and have very thin tips.
Badger hair that are gray in color are less tapered hence are NOT as 'conical' in shape and less 'elastic' and not as soft as the high quality badger 'tapers'. Badger 'grays' are LIGHTER (nearly grey) in color and are less expensive hence are commonly found on SHAVING brushes and BUFFING brushes at Barbershops

Squirrel hair
Makeup brushes made from squirrel hair is the softest of the natural hair. This is because squirel hair is not springy, naturally very fine and relatively thin when compared to sable. Although soft squirrel hair is relatively thin, it still has a thick 'belly' hence has a conical shape, as the tip come to an exceptionally fine point. This unique characteristic of squirrel hair is the very reason why 100% all pure squirrel makeup brushes areextremely soft and most sought after makeup brushes, especially by many professional makeup artists. Canadian squirrel is a slightly thicker, less resilient, considerably shorter hair with more belly; it is usually a variegated yellow and black (two-tone stripes!). Only squirrels with long hair are valuable and suitable for making squirrel makeup brush. So, we're not talking about the short-haired squirrel you find running around in your backyard! Prized squirrel hair that is used in your squirrel powder or blush brush is usually from 'cosmetic-grade' long-hair squirrels. You will find that top grade or higher quality makeup brushes are usually made from squirrel hair and must be hand made to preserve their precious tips
brush example-hakuhodo

Pony Hair
Pony hair cosmetic brushes are made from pony hair that is usually cylindrical in shape unlike the conical shape of the hair of squirrel makeup. This means that pony hair has little or no 'belly' and has less 'pointy' tips compared to squirrel hair or kolinsky sable. Pony hair makeup brush is less expensive than squirrels butmore expensive than goat hair to make
brush example-suesh

GOAT HAIR
Goat hair or 'Capra' is, another decent quality hair type and is the most commonly used hair type in making cosmetic brushes as they are the least costly to make as the hair is widely available. Like all other hair types used for makeup brushes, they come in a wide range of quality within its type. The softest goat hair is, of course, the first-cutwith the tips still intact. They are also sometimes called 'Squirrel Substitute' or 'Squirrel Subs' for short. Goat hair makeup brushes from lower-cut (blunt-cut) are used in the manufacture of mass produced (not hand made), lower quality cosmetic. The top quality goat hair type makeup brush range, is hand-made like any other high quality cosmetic brush to preserve their precious tips. Only handmade high quality goat hair makeup brushes can be considered as a more affordable alternative to Squirrel makeup brushes.
brush example-hakuhodo,charm

Kolinsky Sable
Kolinsky is an animal found in cold regions of Russia and China. It is a species of mink and a member of the weasel family. Makeup brushes made from this are the finest, softest and the most expensive. Each Kolinsky hair has anaturally long fine point tip and a thick 'belly'. As such, kolinsky hair is known for its natural 'conical' shape. Noother sable can match the length of the Kolinsky sable with some as long as 2.25 inches. Kolinskies have a 'springy'resilience, hence would 'snap back', when bent, into its original shape much more compared to other types of sables. Although kolinsky sable has spring to it, Kolinsky hair is yet amazingly soft! The color of Kolinsky sable is golden brown.
brush example-shu uemura,hakuhodo

Sable Hair
Sables, which are not kolinsky or red sable, are simply called 'Sable'. Sable is the largest category and makeup brushes made of sabel can be made from hairs that are seconds from the production of other sable, including kolinsky hair, weasel, red sable or may even contain other hair such as ox hair (tips are blunt compared to red sable), pahmi hair or short blunt-cuts of many other hair types, as fillers. Because of this, sable makeup brushes vary greatly. In short, sable makeup brushes, such as sable lip brush and sabel eye-shadow brush, should have the samecharacteristics as kolinsky hair and red sable, but just to a lesser degree
brush example-suesh

Pahmi Hair
Pahmi hair, some spelled as pami or pammi, makeup brushes are made from a weasel-like animal but smaller and thinner. The hair is slightly stiffer and the tip is short. Pammi hair or Pahmi hair, however you want to spell it, is oftenused as filler hence is mixed with other hair types such as weasel or pony hair. Pahmi hair is relatively inexpensive and when dyed can resemble sable or red sable. Some high end cosmetic brands do carry pahmi in their cosmetic brush range.

SYNTHETHIC BRISTLES

Unlike natural hair makeup brushes, which get softer and softer with each use, synthetic cosmetic brushes tend to get stiffer with use.
Two most common synthetics used in makeup brushes today are Nylon and Taklon. Unlike natural hair, nylon and taklon do not have the scales or cuticle ,hence are not so 'absorbent' and will not 'trap'makeup media the way natural hair will. As such, taklon makeup brushes, which are usually orange or white in color, are commonly used as concealer brush or liquid or cream foundation brush. Taklon is used as a more affordable substitute for Sable but lacks durability as it tends to 'fan out' and become stiffer with each use. Nylon, on the other hand, is commonly used for eyebrow groomer or eyebrow brush as it is harder than Taklon. Nylon is a common cheaper substitute for natural bristles which are naturally stiff. But, some big cosmetic companies are using nylon for concealer brushes, eyeliner brushes, etc, and not as a substitute for natural bristles but for Sable instead.

taklon made brush example is:Ecotools

so thats that hope this post helps.now ill by myself some good quality inexpensive brushes.. =D

How to:Home Made Cream Bases + Explanations(swatches,comaparison)

Friday, February 05, 2010
hello ladies here's a small explanation on the DIY eyeshadow cream/gel bases, highlighters, and color correctors.
elf comparison and swatches

the eyeshadow cram/gel bases

i added some monistat gel since it contains dimethicone so it wont crease so easily, and it made the concoction viscous. But you should apply your medium first(moisturizer, vaseline etc) then mix it with the pigment, before the monistat cause it will make it too powdery and hard to mix if you mix the pigment with monistat first...

shadow base swatches

rubbed 4 times with water...i first let it dry before doing so.

i used my estee lauder sheer eyeshadows on top of my cream bases..

my eyeshadow base after 6 hours on my lids..i used my monistat as my primer.went to the mall and my moms house with lil r of course

here's another swatch of the brown eye base topped with an orange eyeshadow, the swatch below is when i rubbed it a few times with a cloth.

for the face color correctors:

the green base.,everyday minerals mint concealer mixed with leyende face canvas..smells nice!!haha

Ocean mist color corrector saffron.mixed with my daily moisturizer..

the swatches-pink highlighter,bronze highlighter,green base

im proud to say that i made this babies..all by myself..(sounds icky....)hahaha.

Product Review:Mac Paint Pot swatches

Tuesday, February 02, 2010
hello lovelies here are some swatches of the mac paintpots that i own..i love paintpots, cause they do give my eyes a more dramatic finish,or if not helps in making my shadows to not crease.

paintpot?(from maccosmetics site)
A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.
5g / 0.17 fl oz
Paint pots in indianwood,Delft,and Barestudy.

delft-dark teal with golden shimmer-i love this shade, but this is not as smooth and bold as the others,it has a golden shimmers which i love,i can build up the colors since this one is not as packed on pigmentation.

metallic antique bronze(frost)-at first i thought this will just be another metallic bronze base, but i was wrong this gives me a warm golden finish,i dont know about the bronze description but its not as bronze as my stila smudgepot(bronze) this is much lighter

soft beige with gold pearl(frost)-my favorite shade, goes great with anything, you can wear this alone great for a barely there look,i also use this as a highlighter!

and heres my lil r..going 3 years old this coming feb 3.i love you baby~(by the way thats his milk)
